Karnataka fixes the fee payable on a plaint by its own Court Fees Act. This guide sets out the rates that Act publishes, the scale each one runs on, and the matters for which no rate could be established.
The fee is paid on the plaint at filing and is separate from the fee on any application made in the suit. Where the scale does not land on a whole rupee, the fee is shown as the two whole-rupee figures either side of it.

Fee on a petition under the Hindu Marriage Act, the Special Marriage Act, the Divorce Act, the Parsi Marriage and Divorce Act or the Dissolution of Muslim Marriages Act, and on an appeal under any of them. Fee on the petition at filing. Where damages are also claimed, a separate ad valorem fee is charged on that amount.
Fee on the written complaint itself, when it is presented to the Magistrate. It is separate from any fee on process or on applications made in the case. The Article prices a complaint of an offence for which the police may not arrest without a warrant; a complaint of a cognizable offence is outside it.
Karnataka's Court-fee and Suits Valuation Act, 1958 fixes the fee on a money claim as a percentage of the amount claimed, in sixteen slabs, and fixes a flat fee on a matrimonial petition and on a written complaint of an offence. Where a fee is stated it is the fee on the money claimed. A suit valued on some other footing — possession of land, partition, a declaration — is valued under the Act's own rules for that kind of suit, and no amount is stated for those here.
A consumer complaint is not priced by a State Court Fees Act. The fee on it is fixed by rules made under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, which are set out separately.
